We're not laughing as much today.

Because Kenny had to go back to work.

The ocean rolled and rumbled at low tide. The air felt cold and fast. Baby burrowed herself deep in her mother's chest as they walked sideways to protect their sensitive city faces from the wind.

The ocean and gulls were peaceful this week.

On another note, I won't be staying at the The Sou'wester Lodge again. Maybe some of the other trailers are great or the cabins, maybe they are just the cutest darned things. Sure, I saw a Lake (love them) record and lots of local art in the main lobby for sale and golly the thrift shop in a vintage trailer was seriously perfect but, our earth sunken trailer was pretty gnar gnar. I almost mentioned a few things to the nice lady as we handed her the key at checkout but when she asked how everything was I realized that maybe my standards are higher or maybe it's a nice place to stay in the summer and probably pretty fun when you've had a few drinks after listening to some great music just a few feet away and especially fine when you don't have a two month old to protect from germs and mold and all I kept thinking was, "the breast milk will kill whatever gets inside of her".  I'm always thankful for experiences that bring out the parts of me that need a little work and still I accept that I don't like that place and I'd rather stay in a yurt. Now that is a tradition to carry on with. A very clean tradition.

Some positives were the ocean and actually a really fun time with the ol' man and our little person. Driving over the Astoria-Megler Bridge is mesmerizing, by the way.

Love her.

Thank you, Kenny, for taking all of the beautiful pictures.

The days have been inspiring.

Oh, the sun.

I want an adventure.

One that will accommodate a small passenger and her sleepy eyed guiders.

Something that could become tradition. I've always fancied the regularity of adventures. When a tradition is good enough, relaxed, not forced like christmas in Delaware or wherever you don't want to be, it becomes a very important part of you. A tradition can be a lovely thing to remember when you're sitting or walking alone, someday near or someday far from now. As a parent you get to make them for somebody else!

I smell the ocean. Yes, let's get ourselves to the salty water.

She has never seen this part of the world, this magnetic, enormous part of earth.

How many diapers? What kind of food? Will we stop to nurse twice or more? Should we stay here? Yes, that has to be the place because I see a teapot on a stove in one of the pictures and that will be necessary for a good day. I'm sensing a new tradition alright.

Happy weekend to whoever reads this rambling blog!

Cafe au Play

While the name is still growing on me, right as I pulled up to Cafe au Play, I loved it. It's landscaped beautifully with wild Oregon native plants and in ground sandboxes (yup) and big rocks and stumps to jump and play on and inside, inside there is a gigantic menu of food and drinks accommodating every diet you could imagine (tempeh sandwiches, bagels, meat paninis, coffee, tea, coffee, coffee, coffee).

Bea and I met Sara and her sweeties there for some hang out time and both were impressed with the chill breast feeding and kid playing vibe. Lots of toys, but not too many toys, couches, tables and chairs, a train set, oh and wifi! The food was really good and boy were there a lot of choices. The bagel sandwich I had was delicious and Sara's salad looked colorful and fresh! Oh it was so good seeing Sara and the boys. I am so excited to see Bea play with all of her friends that Kenny and I have made for her. Ha.

Some other highlights that come to mind are:
It wasn't tacky inside or out,
it felt pretty clean and
I saw some kids using the bathrooms by themselves so that is acceptable, okay good.
The workers were real nice people.

What the heck Portland. Thank you people who think of people with children! I am into this Cafe au Play place.

I stole this photo from the internet. Thank you internet.

Night time granola

So, I wanted to tell you all about my dream friend teaching me how to needle felt today but we had so much fun crafting and snacking and playing with Bea that I didn't have a chance to take any pictures! I'm off to buy my inexpensive needle felting tools, as soon as possible. This is where she recommended going: and they sell beeswax candle making supplies (the super fun and easy sheets of wax you roll around a wick).

I kicked her out so I could make some night time granola.

Night time granola recipe

about 3 cups oats
a generous amount of maple syrup (maybe 3/4 c)
about 1/2 c of olive oil (add more if uncooked granola looks too dry when mixed)
a few pours of raw sunflower seeds (Tj's!)
a few pours of raw pepitas (yup!)
some sprinkles of pumpkin pie spice blend

Mix that delicious stuff up! Take a bite, it's good raw!

Then bake at 375 for about 5 minutes, stir and bake for 5 more minutes. Let cool and enjoy a quick breakfast and if you are breast feeding like me, enjoy the benefits of increasing your milk supply with extra oats in your diet. Partners like it too.

I miss my mom.
